I noticed one tweet in particular that linked to a YouTube video of the entire production of Yellow Face, which was incredible. It really drives home the points made in the Spoken Word videos we watched, particularly about white-washing in the film industry.
Henry David Hwang's play Yellowface made me terribly interested in how race and culture affects theatre and film and how we handle it. His perspective saying that it's okay for us to be confused about how to handle it is beautiful and so productive to dealing with the issues that we come across and will guide us to one day a better understanding of race in popular media in America.
It made me curious on what kind of life he has lived that made him come to this realization and this article he talks about his family and major people in his life that have helped shape his art and how they even react to it. One example being his father who was never much supportive of his career in drama.
The Steven Barclay Agency speaks very highly of Henry Daviid Hwang. The article describes how Henry a major American dramatist and Chinese playwright has proceeded to turned issues of diversity and culture around in his plays. His play Golden Child was premier off broadway, and received an Obie award.
